"Obituary - Late Mr. J. A. Kenny. A deep gloom was cast over Carnamah and district on Monday when it was learned that Mr. J. A. Kenny had passed away early that morning in the St. John of God Hospital, Subiaco. The late Mr. Kenny who was 60 years of age had been ailing in health for some time past, and although the news of his death was not unexpected it came as a great shock to all who had known him. The deceased gentleman, together with his wife, had conducted a newsagency business in Carnamah for many years and during that time he had earned the esteem of the whole community. He had always taken a keen interest in all sporting bodies in the town, and was always willing to foster sport by the donation of trophies. His activities were not only confined to sporting bodies as he was a strong advocate for any movement appertaining to the welfare of the town. The sympathy of a wide circle of friends goes out to his bereaved wife. The remains were privately cremated in the Karrakatta Crematorium on Tuesday, the Rev. D. J. Davies officiating."

From The Irwin Index newspaper, Saturday 4 June 1938:
"Death of a Carnamah resident - Following an illness extending over a lengthy period, a well-known member of the Carnamah business community in the person of Mr. J. A. Kenny passed away at the St. John of God Hospital at Subiaco on Monday last. The deceased gentleman, who was sixty years of age, entered hospital only about ten days prior to his death and underwent a serious operation, and remaining in an extremely low condition for some days thereafter, he passed away as stated in the presence of his wife. The late Mr. Kenny entered business circles at Carnamah about eight years ago, and although failing health during the latter part of that period prevented him from displaying a particularly active part in the affairs of the community he always showed his interest in other ways, and was a keen follower of all forms of sport. He is survived by a widow, who returned to Carnamah on Wednesday last, to Mrs. Kenny we wish to join in expressing profound sympathy in her sad bereavement. The funeral of the late Mr. Kenny took place in the Karrakatta Cemetery on Tuesday last."

Foundation Committee Member of the Perenjori Progress Association in 1911 [39: 20-Jul-1911]
As there was initially no railway through Perenjori his postal address was Carnamah until 1914 [6]
During his first few years on the farm he employed one farmhand at times but otherwise solely worked the farm himself [152]
In 1915 he grew 150 acres of wheat crop which averaged 14 bushels per acre [152]

Gave evidence to the Royal Commission on the Agricultural Industries of Western Australia in Perenjori on 25 November 1916 [152]
He thought that farmers in Perenjori needed 1,000 acres and that a man couldn't work more than 250 acres on his own [152]
Believed larger machinery and bulk wheat handling would reduce costs, and that the duty on machinery was unreasonably high [152]
Remarked "to depend on wheat alone is not good" and that if he could get sheep on extended terms he could build up a flock  [152]
He concluded "I have a fair shell of a house... and a I might say that the majority of the dwellings here are not fit for pigs" [152]
He was of the opinion that payments for the first few years needed to be held over to allow farmers to establish themselves [152]
