"OBITUARY - Mr. Dave Simpson, of Winchester, aged 78 years, passed away at Three Springs on May 8. The late Mr. Simpson came from Ireland and settled in W.A., in the year 1912, joining the Midland Railway Company, and was stationed at Irwin. Later he was at Three Springs, Carnamah and Winchester. He continued on with the Midland Railway Company for a further five years after reaching the retiring age. He was predeceased by his wife. His family comprised Katie, Mrs. Jones, Maylands; Jim, deceased; Mrs. Kitson, Inglewood; Sonny, Waddy Forest; Vera, Mrs. Gurney, York. The funeral took place at the Winchester cemetery and was well attended by local residents. Mr. H. H. Knight had charge of the funeral arrangements and a priest from Geraldton administered the last rites at the graveside."

"Obituary - Late Mr. David Simpson - Old District Identity. A very old identity and highly respected resident of the North Midlands in the person of Mr. David Simpson, of Winchester, passed away at Three Springs on Thursday of last week. The deceased gentleman, who was seventy-eight years of age, came to Australia from Ireland and settled in this State in 1912. For a brief period he followed agricultural pursuits and then joined the Midland Railway Company, but due to war conditions on attaining the age of sixty-five years he did not retire, consenting to continue working in an essential position for a further period of five years. The late Mr. Simpson's early association with the Midland Railway Company was spent at Irwin, but for the greater portion of his long service he was stationed at Three Springs, Carnamah and Winchester. He was predeceased by his wife, but is survived by a family of one son and three daughters comprising Mr. Sonny Simpson (Waddy Forrest) and Mesdames Jones (Maylands), Kitson (Inglewood) and Gurney (York), another so having also predeceased him. The funeral took place in the Catholic Cemetery at Winchester with the Rev. Father N. Tobin, of Geraldton, officiating at the graveside in the presence of quite a large gathering of district residents. Whilst returning from a football match at Dalwallinu, on a truck last Sunday, Mr James Simpson, of Waddy Forest, late of Winchester, was thrown from the truck and received lacerations to the head and injuries to the spine. The victim was conveyed to the Dalwallinu Hospital, where his condition was reported to be critical."

"Obituary - The Late Mr. James Simpson. The death occurred on Monday July 8, at the Dalwallinu Hospital when Mr. James Simpson, of Winchester, passed away. Death was due to injuries received in a fall from a motor truck on Sunday, June 30, when the late Mr. Simpson in the company of a number of other men was returning from a football match at Dalwallinu. Mr. Simpson was unconscious when picked up and was conveyed to the Dalwallinu Hospital where he was reported to be in a critical condition, he succumbed to his injuries without regaining consciousness. The late Mr. Simpson, was 28 years of age and had spent 21 years in the Carnamah district, having been a pupil at the Carnamah School. Of a quiet likeable disposition the deceased was a popular favourite wherever he went. The deceased leaves a father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. D. Simpson, of Winchester, three sisters, Mrs. K. Kitson of Coorow, Mrs. Jones of Perth and Vera of Winchester and one brother, Jack, of Winchester, to mourn his sad loss. The deepest sympathy is felt for the relatives in their sad bereavement."

The funeral of the late Mr. James Simpson, of Winchester, who died at the Dalwallinu Hospital on Monday, July 8, from injuries received in a fall from a motor truck, took place on Thursday last in the Winchester Cemetery. There was a large attendance of relatives and friends, and the service was conducted by the Rev. Father Morino, of Dalwallinu. The pall-bearers were - Messrs. G. John, F. Whaite, W. "Obituary - Vale Mrs. D. Simpson. It is with extreme regret that we record the death of Mrs. D. Simpson, who passed away at her home at Winchester early on Wednesday morning. The deceased lady had suffered indifferent health for a long time past, and although the news of her death was not altogether unexpected, it cast a deep gloom over the whole district. The passing of Mrs. Simpson severs yet another link with the early days of the district. The deceased was born in Donegal, Ireland, and came to Australia as the age of 35. She has resided in the North Midland districts ever since, and has spent the last thirteen years living in Winchester. The late Mrs. Simpson was held in the highest respect, and was loved by all with whom she came in contact. She leaves a husband, three daughters Kate (Mrs. Jones), Peg (Mrs. Kitson), and Vera and one son Jack, to mourn their loss. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon, the remains being laid to rest in the Roman Catholic portion of the Winchester cemetery. A large cortege followed the remains to their last resting place. The burial service was conducted by the Rev. Father Lynch, of the North Midlands Parish of the R.C. Church. The pall-bearers were Messrs. W. G. Mulligan, H. Morrison, L. Gersch, A. Gersch, H. Williams and G. A. Bradshaw. The chief mourners were her husband and Mrs. Jones (daughter), Mrs. Kitson (daughter), Vera (daughter), Jack (son) and K. Kitson (son-in-law)."

"Mr Andrew Smart, the town representative of the Carnamah Road Board for the past five years, is a Victorian by birth. Arriving in this State in the early 'nineties, his knowledge of mining conditions gained in his native Bendigo naturally attracted him to the auriferous belts of the Golden West, and finally he decided in 1905, to try his fortune at Day Dawn on the Murchison. On arrival at his destination, he decided to enter into business, rather than chase the "elusive weight". In his business affairs at Day Dawn he met with comparative success, and after spending ten years there, during which time he served as a member of the local road board for a period, he left the district to work a farming proposition that he had acquired in that part of the wheat belt known today as Mukinbudin. After devoting another five years to the farm, Mr Smart disposed of it and engaged in a commercial undertaking in Perth. Tiring of city life after nine years, he responded to the urge to return to the open spaces, and selected Carnamah as the scene of his activities. Soon after settling in Carnamah, he was elected to a seat on the road board as representative for the town ward, in which capacity he is now in his third term of office. Ever on the alert in the interests of the town and district, Mr Smart has well earned the reputation of being one of the progressive citizens of Carnamah. He is interested in sport and is a keen golfer, recently winning the Captain's cup. At the same meeting he had the pleasure of seeing his wife win a similar honour in the ladies' section of the club."

From as early as 1903 and until at least 1916 he worked as a Contractor and resided on Knebworth Avenue in Perth ^[50]
In 1917 he was living in North Perth ^[2] and was an employee of Malloch Bros in Perth ^[10]
He was in Carnamah on 20 December 1917 to erect a windmill for the Midland Railway Company at the 174½ mile railway siding ^[10]
While travelling on a railway tricycle with a local fettler a special goods train approached and ran down the tricycle they were on ^[10]
The train was travelling at about 15 miles per hour and had not been able to stop in time, and he was killed almost instantly ^[10]

     A large number of residents of the Carnamah district signed the petition which was sent to the Shell Oil Company  ^[5]

From The Irwin Index newspaper, Saturday 12 December 1931:
"Obituary - Much sympathy has been expressed in Carnamah with Mr. and Mrs. N. Somers on account of the sad loss sustained through the death of their infant son (Thomas Brian), aged eleven months, who died at the Three Springs Hospital on Sunday afternoon last after a brief illness. The sudden nature of the occurrence made the blow doubly hard for the bereaved parents, and everybody was deeply grieved. The funeral took place on Monday afternoon at the Winchester cemetery, the Rev. A. W. Curtis officiating. The tiny casket was borne to its last resting place by Messrs A. P. Tucker, J. K. Forrester, D. Walker and A. C. Bierman, and many floral tributes were placed on the grave."
