From The Western Mail newspaper, Thursday 9 January 1930:
Country Towns and Districts - Carnamah's Advancement
"Having gained all round experience in the Chief Secretary's Department over a period of 12 years, Mr. A. C. Bierman, the secretary of the Carnamah Road Board, forsook the civil service for municipal work. His first appointment in the new field was to the secretaryship of the West Kimberley Road Board, which resulted in a residence of three years in Derby. During his occupation of the position he was commissioner for the West Kimberley district for seven months, when the members of the board had resigned on a matter of vital public importance. Mr. Bierman went to Carnamah from Derby two and a half years ago. A breakdown in health shortly after his arrival necessitated a trip to Singapore. In the prosperous wheatbelt township he figures largely in public activities. He is secretary of the race club, now being re-organised, chairman of committees and treasurer of the cricket and football clubs, and a delegate to the North Midlands Football Association. Mr. Bierman was born in the City of Churches [Adelaide] and educated in Perth."

From The Western Mail newspaper, Thursday 5 October 1933:
Country Towns and Districts - Three Springs and Carnamah - Rich Pastoral and Wheat Lands - A Progressive Community
"The secretary of the Carnamah Road Board, Mr A.C. Bierman, who has held that position for nearly seven years, is a native of Adelaide. He arrived in this State in 1904, and entered the civil service, serving in the Chief Secretary's department for an unbroken period of 13 years. On retiring from the service he was appointed secretary of the West Kimberley Road Board at Derby, and served in that capacity for three years. On the resignation of the members of the road board in a body as a protest against the apathy of the Government in their treatment and protection of the lepers in the district, he was appointed Commissioner for the road board district. Soon after relinquishing that position, he was appointed to the position which he holds at present. Outside his official capacity, Mr Bierman has proved himself a competent organiser in the sporting and social activities of the district, and consequently has earned the respect and friendship of the community."

From The North Midland Times newspaper, Friday 18 December 1942:
"Pioneer Passes - Late Mrs. H. Parkin. The death occurred suddenly at her home on Thursday evening of Mrs. H. Parkin, a pioneer of the Carnamah district. The deceased lady had not enjoyed good health for several years, and on Thursday evening she collapsed from a heart attack and died almost immediately. The late Mrs. Parkin and her husband were amongst the first pioneers of the Carnamah district, and it was interesting to hear them reminiscence of the early days of the district. It must have been a shock to the late Mrs. Parkin and her young family to find themselves transported to a spot in the almost virgin bush of Australia, from the comparatively comfortable life of the Old Country, but like all great-hearted people they overcame their difficulties and soon developed into typical Australian pioneers. Every sympathy is felt for the bereaved husband and family of four daughters and one son who are left to mourn their loss."

From The North Midland Times newspaper, Friday 25 December 1942:
"Funeral - Late Mrs. H. Parkin. On Sunday morning last there was laid to rest in the Winchester cemetery a grand old lady in the person of Mrs. H. Parkin who had passed over the Great Divide the previous Thursday evening. The deceased lady, who was born in Cornwall England, 74 years ago, came to Australia in the early part of the present century, and was one of the pioneers of the Carnamah district. About ten years ago she underwent a serious operation in the city, and although the operation was a success, she was later subject to heart attacks. On Thursday evening of last week she suffered one of these attacks and passed quietly away. There was a representative attendance at the graveside, and practically all of the old pioneering families of the district were represented."

From The North Midland Times newspaper, Friday 13 April 1945:
"Obituary - Late Mrs. Hollingsworth. The death occurred in Perth on Tuesday of last week of Mrs. Annah Maria Hollingsworth, widow of the late Mr. Alfred Hollingsworth, late of Carnamah. The deceased lady had been failing in health for some years, and following the death of her husband about six months ago, her condition rapidly deteriorated. The late Mrs. Hollingsworth, who was formerly Miss Annah Bishop, spent her younger days around the Greenough district where she met and married her late husband. Three children resulted from the union, Richard, Stanley and Vittoria, (later Mrs. Percy Dewar). The late Mr. and Mrs. Hollingsworth later moved to Carnamah where they acquired farming interests some nine miles east of the siding. They were at that stage, among the early pioneers of the district. By dint of hard work they were able to build their property up to be one of the best farms in the district, and when their two sons grew up, they were able to establish them on farms also. With advancing years beginning to take their toll, the late Mr. and Mrs. Hollingsworth retired from active participation of farm work some years ago, and went to live in retirement at Guildford. Since that time their old homestead has been worked by their two sons. Living comparatively quiet lives, the deceased couple were not too well known by the younger folk of the district, but among the rapidly diminishing ranks of the old pioneers, the name Hollingsworth will always be spoken with respect. And so, at the age 76 years, Annah Hollingsworth has passed on to Higher Service. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon, the remains being laid to rest in the Anglican portion of the Karrakatta cemetery, beside those of her late life partner."

11/9/18      Honour or Award: Military Medal      Recommended by: L.F.S. Mather Lt-Col. C.R.E. 5th Aust. Div.
Action for which commended: For gallantry and devotion to duty. In the neighbourhood of Peronne during the period 30-31st August to 1-5th Sept 1918 this N2C.O. rendered very valuable assistance to his Officer in the successful completion of a footbridge through the Somme Valley. He was situated on the footbridge head, and was pushing out this bridge at a distance of 300 yards ahead of our advanced Infantry Posts and was continually under direct enemy machine gun fire. He set a fine example to the men under him, and it was largely due to his courage that the track was completed. On 5 September 1918 oushed forward with the advanced Infantry on reconnaissance and locating enemy lines, and despite enemalties to his party removed them under very heavy shell fire.

From the Elders Weekly newspaper, Thursday 14 March 1957:
"The Late Mr. W. Bodycoat. The death occurred suddenly, on 2nd March, of Mr. Walter Bodycoat, one of the pioneers of the Inering (Carnamah) district. Mr. Bodycoat, who was born in 1886, at Epping, Victoria, came with his parents to Western Australia in 1898. After living in Perth for sometime the family moved to Kalgoorlie, where Mr. Walter Bodycoat attended the School of Mines, training as a mining assayer. In 1909 Mr. Bodycoat left for Uruguay, South America, and later spent some time on the Gold Coast in West Africa. He returned to Western Australia in 1915, and subsequently embarked with the Australian Field Engineers for war service overseas. He served in France and Belgium until the end of the war and was awarded the Military Medal. After taking his discharge in London he went out again to West Africa, but a little later returned to England, where in 1920, he married Miss Katie Burt, of Newquay, Cornwall, whom he had met during the war. He again went to West Africa for a few months and then in 1921, he and his wife came to Western Australia. They lived in Northam for a short while, and then in 1925, they moved to the Carnamah district, where Mr. Bodycoat purchased a property of 2500 acres in the Inering district, which was then in the early stages of development. When he acquired the property, which was named Trevose, after the site of a lighthouse in Cornwall, only 150 acres were cleared. A steady, and well organised system of development was initiated and by dint of hard work and determined efforts, despite the many difficulties with which the pioneers had to contend, success was steadily and surely achieved. In all this Mr. Bodycoat was ably seconded by his wife and later, in conjunction with their two sons, further holdings in the district were acquired. In the early years wheat production was the principal activity, but steadily the land was developed for the carrying of sheep, and now the holdings constitute one of the largest wheat and sheep properties in the district. Though taking a keen interest in the growth of the district, Mr. Bodycoat never aspired to take an active part in public life, but was a keen supporter and hard worker for the Carnamah Agricultural Society. A few years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Bodycoat retired to live in Perth with their daughter, Barbara, leaving their sons, Ken and Gordon, on the farms. The sudden passing away of Mr. Bodycoat came as a great shock to the numerous friends of the family, and brought forth many expressions of condolences and sympathy."
