The kangaroo hunt was an annual event held in Carnamah. In 1925 the
hunting party met at Donald Macpherson’s homestead
Carnamah House and then
proceeded to their hunting ground – the sandplain near the Yarra Yarra
Lakes. The 1925 hunt, which
was
led by local farmers Donald Macpherson and John Bowman, bagged 25
kangaroos. The party pursued kangaroos on horseback with intervals for a
picnic lunch and afternoon tea. Donald Macpherson was said to have
generously loaned a horse to anyone who didn't have one but wished to
participate in the hunt. These photographs are believed to be
from a variety of different years.
