From The North Midland Times newspaper, Friday 1 November 1935:
"Hay Carting Fatality - Man Falls from Load - Whilst haycarting on Monday morning, Mr. Nicola Iovone, an employee of Mr Con Bussenschutt, of Three Springs, met with an accident resulting in his untimely demise. He was sitting on top of a truck load of hay which side slipped and precipitated him to the ground. When picked up Mr Iovine was unconscious and he was conveyed to the Three Springs hospital where he was admitted in a critical condition. He passed away at 5 p.m. without regaining consciousness. A post mortem examination revealed a fracture at the base of the skull. Deceased, a native of Italy, was 34 years of age and had been resident in W.A. for nine years, the past two months having been spent in the Three Springs district. He leases and a widow and three children in Italy."

"At the North Midlands District Hospital at Three Springs the death occurred on the 12th inst. of Mr Frederick Edward James, one of the early settlers of the Three Springs district, the deceased gentleman having owned the property known as Coodawa from 1913 to 1931. The late Mr James was a former member of the Mingenew and Carnamah Road Boards, and he was also a member of the expedition which paved the Canning Stock Route from the North-West to Wiluna. He was also a veteran of two wars, having fought in South Africa during the Boer War and also the last World War. The late Mr James was predeceased by his wife in 1930, but is survived by one son in Private "Dick" James, at present serving in a forward area with the A.I.F., and also a daughter-in-law and three grandchildren residing at Three Springs."

The deceased, who was 69, underwent an operation about 12 months ago and suffered indifferent health until her demise. She leaves three daughters and one son, Mrs. E. J. Jackson, Parliament Place, Perth; Mrs. O. Harvey, Marion Street, Leederville; Mrs S. Williams, Sydney; and Mr. W. Jordan, Three Springs, to mourn their sad loss. The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon when the remains were interred in Karrakatta Cemetery."
