On the morning of Monday 16 May 1930 the laundry, garage and a portion of the house was destroyed by fire [4]
The fire was believed to have started from the copper in the laundry, which adjoined the garage in which he lived [4]
The house was saved by a willing band of helpers however the garage was already lost by the time help had arrived [4]
He lost the entire of his household and personal effects and all of his carpentering tools in the fire [4: 7-Jun-1930]
