From The North Midland Times newspaper, Friday 31 August
1934:
"Death of Mrs. Forrester. The very deepest of sympathy will be felt by the
whole district for Mr. J. K. Forrester and family in their sudden bereavement of
wife and mother by the death of Mrs. Forrester at 5 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.
The late Mrs. Forrester had only returned from Perth the previous Wednesday, and
had to be taken to the Carnamah Private Hospital suffering from pneumonia on
Thursday night, where under the unremitting care of Dr. C. P. Rosenthal, the
Sister and nursing staff, she was making a steady recovery, until heart failure
caused a sudden collapse. The bereavement has been made all the more tragic on
account of the serious illness of Mr. Forrester's daughter Isabel, and the death
of his father only a year ago. Christina Brown Dunsire Forrester was born at
Fifeshire, Scotland, 43 years ago, and came out to Western Australia and
Carnamah in February 1920, shortly after her marriage. The deceased lady leaves
a family of three: Isabel, aged 13 years; Alan, aged 11; and Ian, aged 4.
Throughout her 14 years' association with the district Mrs. Forrester had been a
willing helper in all phases of community life, and especially those in which
her husband was interested. Work in connection with the [Carnamah] show perhaps
claimed her attention most but the Country Women's Association, the Presbyterian
Church, and the Tennis, Golf and Repertory Clubs all received a share of her
generous support. The district has lost one whom it respected most highly, and
one who will be greatly missed. The funeral will take place this (Friday)
afternoon, preceded by a service conducted by Pastor J. Barnes at 3 p.m. in the
Carnamah hall. As a mark of respect to the late Mrs. Forrester, and to Mr.
Forrester, who is a returned soldier, members of the Carnamah Sub-Branch of the
R.S.L., from 12.30 p.m. yesterday afternoon until the funeral takes place today,
have kept a continuous vigil over the remains, which are lying in the church
hall."
From The Irwin Index newspaper, Saturday 1 September
1934:
"Mrs. J. K. Forrester - Passing of a Popular Lady.
"Residents of Carnamah and district received a shock on
Wednesday last when news was circulated to the effect that Mrs. Christina Brown
Dunsire Forrester, wife of the chairman of the Carnamah Road Board (Mr. J. K.
Forrester) had passed away at the Carnamah Private Hospital after a brief
illness. The deceased lady, who was 43 years of age, was well and favourably
known right throughout the district, and with her husband enjoyed the esteem and
goodwill of residents in all parts of the North Midlands. Only recently the late
Mrs. Forrester returned from the city having made a hurried journey in
consequence of the serious illness of her daughter (Isobel), and it was shortly
afterwards that she was stricken with an acute attack of pneumonia that
necessitated admission to hospital.
The late Mrs. Forrester was born at Fifeshire (Scotland) and
arrived at Carnamah in company with her husband between fourteen and fifteen
years ago. Since then she has reared a family of one daughter (Isobel) and two
sons (Alan and Ian), who are left to mourn with their bereaved and
grief-stricken father.
At noon on Thursday the remains were conveyed from the Carnamah Hospital to the
Church Hall, and from that hour until the commencement of the funeral yesterday
a continuous vigil was kept by members of the Carnamah Branch of the R.S.L., of
which Mr. Forrester is an active and popular member.
During yesterday the body was transferred to the Carnamah
Hall and in the afternoon the funeral took place, the service being conducted by
Pastor J. Barnes, of the Carnamah Presbyterian Church. At the graveside were
residents from all parts of the district., various organisations represented
being the Carnamah Road Board, Carnamah Masonic Lodge, Carnamah Agricultural
Society, Carnamah Repertory Club, Carnamah Golf Club, Carnamah Branch of R.S.L.,
Carnamah Tennis Club, Carnamah Rifle Club, and Carnamah Football Club.
A further reference to the funeral will appear in next
week's issue."
From The North Midland Times newspaper, Friday 7
September 1934:
"Funeral - The Late Mrs. J. K. Forrester. The funeral took place last Friday
of Mrs. J. K. Forrester, whose death occurred from heart failure following on
pneumonia at the Carnamah Private Hospital of Wednesday of last week. About 200
people gathered at the graveside to pay their last respects, and a cortege of
nearly 60 cars followed the remains to the cemetery at Winchester. The funeral
was preceded by a short but impressive service in the Carnamah hall, which was
filled with 250 friends of the bereaved family. The service was conducted by
Pastor J. Barnes, who paid a tribute to the Christian character of the deceased.
The funeral was attended to by friends of all parts of the district: Carnamah,
Winchester, Coorow, Waddy Forest, Gunyidi, Three Springs and Mingenew, and
representatives of every organisation in the district, while members of the
Carnamah Sub-Branch of the R.S.L. acted as pall-bearers. An exceptionally large
number of floral tributes were received adding a note of beauty and dignity to
the service in the hall and the scene at the graveside."
From The Irwin Index newspaper, Saturday 8 September
1934:
Late Mrs. Forrester - Funeral at Carnamah - Large Assemblage at Graveside
"The late Mrs. J. K. Forrester, wife of Mr. J. K. Forrester,
the chairman of the Carnamah Road Board, whose untimely death at the
comparatively young age of 43 years was reported in our issue of last week, was
laid to rest in the Carnamah District Cemetery at Winchester on Friday of last
week in the presence of a very large assemblage of residents of Carnamah and the
surrounding districts, the gathering providing eloquent testimony to the esteem
of the deceased lady and her husband. Prior to leaving for the cemetery a
service was held at the Carnamah Hall, the nearby church not being large enough
to accommodate all those desirous of paying a last tribute of respect, and even
the seating accommodation in the commodious hall was overtaxed. The service was
conducted by the Rev. J. Barnes, who also officiated at the graveside. During
the service two of the late Mrs. Forrester's favourite hymns - "Sun of My Soul"
and "Abide With Me" - were impressively rendered by the large congregation
without accompaniment. As the casket was borne slowly through the streets of the
town which the departed lady had so often traversed, and frequently in the
performance of some public service, approximately sixty motor vehicles followed
the hearse to take part in the last sad journey to the cemetery. Mr. Forrester,
being a prominent member of the Masonic fraternity, many of his brethren
attended the funeral as a token of sympathy towards him in his trying ordeal,
the Mingenew and Carnamah Lodges both being officially represented. Mrs.
Forrester had been a sterling supporter of the Country Women's Association
during her lifetime, and representatives of the Carnamah, Mingenew and Three
Springs Branches of the Association were present at the funeral. Other
organisations represented were the Carnamah Road Board, Mingenew Road Board,
Three Springs Road Board, Carnamah R.S.L., Yandanooka R.S.L., Carnamah
Agricultural Society, Mingenew Agricultural Society, Coorow-Waddy Agricultural
Society, Carnamah Repertory Club, Carnamah Golf Club, Carnamah Tennis Club,
Carnamah Rifle Club, Carnamah Football Club, North Midlands Co-operative Coy.,
Shell Oil Coy., and Vacum Oil Coy. The bereaved husband as chief mourner was
supported by Mr. C. Robertson, who is a distant relative. The pall-bearers were
members of the Carnamah Branch of the R.S.L., who maintained a continuous vigil
over the remains of the late Mrs. Forrester during the period the coffin
remained in the Church Hall.

From The North Midland Times newspaper, Friday 13
October 1939:
Obituary - Late Mrs. J. K. Forrester. It is with extreme regret that we
report the death of Mrs. Doris Forrester, wife of J. K. Forrester, of "Dunester,"
Carnamah, who passed away in Perth on Sunday evening last. The Union Jack flying
at half-mast on Monday morning heralded the news of the late lady's demise, and
many and sincere were the expressions of regret when it was finally learned who
it was who had passed over the Great Divide. The late Mrs. Forrester, who was 38
years of age, was born at Derbyshire, England, and came out to Australia some
fourteen years ago. About three years ago she married Mr. Forrester who at that
time was a widower, she herself, being a widow. She soon settled down into the
social and sporting life of Carnamah and her genial disposition established her
as a great favourite throughout the district. There was hardly any sphere of
activity, for the good of the district, in which she and her husband did not
interest themselves. Mrs. Forrester was a past president of the local branch of
the C.W.A., and during her term of office devoted a great deal of her time to
the movement. She was on the committee of the golf associates and the tennis
club, as well as being deeply interested in the work of the Presbyterian ladies'
guild. She was an active member of the Repertory Club and only recently
played one of the leading parts in the Drama Festival prize-winning play "A
Sunny Morning." The late Mrs. Forrester had not been enjoying the best of health
recently and for this reason decided to undergo an operation late last week.
Although the operation was successful complications set in and her name was
placed on the danger list. Death occurred on Sunday evening. A husband, one son
(Denys Bolton), a step-daughter (Isabel Forrester) and two step-sons (Alan and
Ian Forrester) are left to mourn their loss. The chief mourners were Messrs. J.
K. Forrester (husband), Denys Bolton (son), Alan Forrester (stepson) and C.
Robertson (cousin). The pall-bearers were Mr. Wm. Patrick, M.L.A., Dr. C. J.
Caldera, Messrs. J. Bowman (Carnamah Lodge, No. 150, W.A.C.), R. G. Drake
(general superintendent Midland Railway Co. of W.A.), A. A. McGilp (vice
chairman, Carnamah Road Board), F. Stone (representing Westralian Farmers Ltd.),
W. A. T. Sargent (president of the Carnamah Agricultural Society), A. C. Bierman
(secretary Carnamah Branch Australian Defence League), A. N. Langsford (manager
United Insurance Company Ltd.), and F. Fels (representing Carnamah sub-branch
