"Ed" David Idwal DAVIES
Born 22 April 1908 in Ruthin, Denbighshire, Wales [16] [21]
Son of farmer Hugh DAVIES and Jane Janet ROBERTS [20] [21]
He was the youngest of eight children with elder siblings Janet, John, Margaret, Thomas, Gwilym, Helena and Caradoc [20] [39: 8-May-1952]
In 1911 he was living with his parents and siblings at Foel Fawr in Derwin, Denbigshire, Wales [20]
The entire family was booked to depart on the steamship Gothic on 29 February 1912 bound for Fremantle, Western Australia [203]
He departed on the Gothic with his mother and all of his siblings except Caradoc and they arrived in Fremantle on 10 April 1912 [23]
His father and brother Caradoc followed on the steamship Belgic which departed Liverpool, England on 27 April 1912 [203]

His brothers Gwilym and Caradoc had purchased 2,043 acres of prospective farmland in Coorow on 12 August 1925 [27]
The 2,043 acres was Lot M1533 of Victoria Location 2023 and cost 15/- per acre, or a total of £1532/3/1 [27]
The land was purchased from the Midland Railway Company and was payable by instalments over 15 years [27]
In 1927 they grew 300 acres of crop, which averaged six bags per acre [9: 27-Jan-1928]
They won 2nd prize for Swedes in the Vegetable section of the first Coorow-Waddy Agricultural Show in 1932 [5: 16-Sep-1932]
In January 1935 they sold a bale of wool for 10¾d. per pound and in October sold two bales at 14d. per pound [5: 1-Feb-1935, 1-Nov-1935]
They sold 132 suckers through Western Australian Farmers Ltd with three consignments of 44 sheep to Midland Market in 1935 [5]
The 132 consisted of 30 at 16/10 per head, 44 at 15/4, 12 at 15/10, 44 at 14/4 and two stained at 14/4 and 14/- [5: 6, 13 & 20-Sep-1935]
They requested in December 1935 for the Carnamah District Road Board to close part of a road adjoining their farm [5: 20-Dec-1935]
Their request was successful with part of the road on the northern boundary of their Lot M1533 being closed [5: 20-Dec-1935]
During April 1936 they purchased a new 16.33 rigid tyne combine from Westralian Farmers Ltd [5: 10-Apr-1936]
They sold 197 sheep and five pigs in 1936 with three consignments to the Midland Market in Perth [5: 10-Jul-1936, 21-Aug-1936, 16-Oct-1936]
The 197 consisted of 57 lambs (23 at 16/-, 24 at 12/10, 10 shorn at 9/7). 47 wethers (16 at 29/10, 4 at 23/10, and 27 at 20/10),
65 of unknown type at 13/1-, 16 suckers at 17/10 and 12 ewes at 7/1 per head; and five pigs at 39/6 per head [5]
They won 2nd prize for Brown Hen Eggs exhibited at the Coorow-Waddy Agricultural Show in Coorow in 1936 [5: 11-Sep-1936]
They sold four bales of wool through Westralian Farmers Ltd in 1936 - two bales at 14d. and two at 13¾d. per pound [5: 16-Oct-1936]
In 1937 they sold seven pigs at Midland Market - 1 baconer at 64/-, 5 choppers (1 at 66/6, 4 at 52/6), 1 porker at 48/6 [5: 7-May-1937]
They sold 167 sheep through Westralian Farmers Ltd with four consignments to market in 1937 [5: 9 & 16-Jul-1937, 13-Aug-1937, 17-Sep-1937]
The sheep consisted of 87 lambs (44 at 26/4, 43 at 23/3), 43 suckers (33 at 23/10, 10 at 23/4), 37 ewes (13 at 22/1, 24 at 18/7) [5]
They purchased a new Oldsmobile truck during October 1937 [81: 24-Oct-1937]
