In March 1941 his engagement to Miss Ivy M. HOWARD of Three Springs was announced in the local newspaper [4: 22-Mar-1941]
At the time of his engagement his mother a widow and was living in Box Hill, Victoria [4: 22-Mar-1941]
Prior to entering military training in the Eastern States he was farewelled in Three Springs on Saturday 18 January 1942 [4: 24-Jan-1942]
     The evening consisted of dancing, supper and speeches, and during the latter he was presented with a wallet of bank notes [4]
     He had become "quite a popular figure in the community" and he was wished all the best for his military career and a safe return [4]
     Responded to the speeches in thanks, adding he would be leaving many good friends and hoped to later return to Three Springs [4]
