Died 8 April 1912; buried at the Geraldton Cemetery in Geraldton, Western Australia (which is now Apex Pioneer Memorial Park) [29]
From The Mount Magnet Miner and Leonnville Leader newspaper, Saturday 13 April 1912:
"A well-known prospector in the person of Mr Edward Payne, died at the Geraldton Hospital on Sunday last. The deceased, who was 48 years of age, was one of the prospectors of Paynesville, on the Murchison. He had latterly been living at Carnamah, where he was employed on a station, and becoming ill, came to Geraldton to seek medical advice last Friday, death, however, supervening two days later, and being caused by perforation of the intestines and a kidney complaint. The late Mr Payne was a
widower, and leaves a boy eight years of age to mourn his loss. The funeral took place on Saturday morning in tbe Anglican cemetery. The Rev. A. Craven, B.A., officiating at the graveside, while the mortuary arrangements were carried out by Mr Lester."
