Obituary - Mrs Willie Fennell
"A shock was felt in Carnarvon last Saturday when the sad news came through that Mrs. Willie Fennell (nee Kitty McSherry) had passed away at the hospital at Three Springs. No one here knew of her illness, and only a few weeks ago, when she left Carnarvon with her husband and Mrs G. Fennell she appeared in the best of health and spirits. Brought up as a girl in Carnarvon, she was known well to practically all of us. and her bright and cheery disposition had made her a general favorite. In her career as a nurse, which she followed before her marriage, she endeared herself to her. fellow nurses and her patients. and there are indeed many in different parts of the State who will feel deep sorrow at her passing. Our deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved husband, sister and brother."
From The Irwin Index newspaper, Saturday 2 June 1928:
Social and Personal
The death occurred at Three Springs on Thursday, May 24, of Mrs. Fennell, who with her husband, settled at Winchester in March of this year, on the property formerly owned by Mr. McNeil. The deceased lady, who was well known at Carnarvon and other parts of the North West, as Nurse McSherry, was taken ill on Tuesday, May 22, and brought to Three Springs, where she gave birth to a still-born child. Strenuous efforts were made by Drs. Mayrhofer and Hungerford to save her life, but despite all attention she passed away on Thursday shortly before the arrival of her sister, Miss McSherry, who is also a nurse. The funeral took place on Friday afternoon at the Three Springs cemetery, the Rev. Father M. Lynch officiating. Among those present at the graveside were Nurse McSherry (sister), Mr. and Mrs. Fennell (father-in-law and mother-in-law), Mrs. Thomas and daughter, Miss Byrne, Dr. Mayrhofer, Mr. P. Lynch and Mr. R. Barnhart. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. Wilton."
