At age twelve he wrote an essay on "Sheep and Wool" which won a prize at the Upper Blackwood Show [371: 15-Nov-1922]
A year later, aged 13, another essay on the same subject was also a prize-winner at the Upper Blackwood Show [371: 1-Dec-1923]
Successfully competed in the Ring Events at Upper Blackwood Show in 1924 [371: 19-Nov-1924]

Married (1) Muriel Lillian JARICK in Perth in 1933 [15]
In mid 1947 he sought a divorce from his wife but it was denied due to a lack of evidence [39: 26-Jun-1947] [310: 5-Jul-1947]
However, with new evidence, the divorce was granted by the Supreme Court on 9 October 1947 [39: 10-Oct-1947] [310: 1-Nov-1947]
