Following his brother's enlistment they both gave their next of kin as their brother Michael J. CARROLL of Arrino [30]
After training at Blackboy Hill in the Perth Hills he was appointed to E Company of the 11th Battalion on 6 October 1914 [30]
Embarked from Fremantle, Western Australia for service abroad on the H.M.A.T. A11 Ascanius on 2 November 1914 [30]
Underwent further training in Egypt and then embarked from Alexandria for active service in Turkey [30]
Private 1015 in the Australian Imperial Force's 11th Battalion in Turkey during the First World War [30]
He was reported missing from the first day of the landings on the Gallipoli Peninsula, later presumed Killed in Action [30]
A Court of Enquiry in France ruled in 1916 that he'd been Killed in Action on 25 April 1915 on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey [30]
Evidence was received that a soldier had returned on a boat with a comrade who had helped to bury him [30]
He was buried at Plugge's Plateau Cemetery (Row B, Grave 9), located one mile east of Anzac Cove on the Gallipoli Peninsula [30]
His personal effects of a disc, note-book and photos were mailed to his brother in Arrino [30]
Awarded the 1914-15 Star, Victory Medal and British War Medal which were also sent to his brother, as was his Memorial Plaque [30]
Letter of Administration for his estate, valued at £10/16/-, were granted to his brother Michael in early October 1916 [39: 6-Oct-1916]
