From The Irwin Index newspaper, Saturday 21 November 1936:
Obituary - Late Mr J. E. Hodgkiss - Young Man's Sad End
"Keen regret was expressed by a large section of the community of the North Midlands during last week-end when it became known that Mr Jack
Hodgkiss. a former resident of Three Springs, had passed away at Woorooloo on Friday morning. The deceased gentleman, who was only 20 years of age, was formerly
attached to the staff of the E. S. and A. Bank at Three Springs, and in that capacity he was well and favourably known right throughout the district. During the period of his residence at Three Springs he was also extremely popular in sporting and social circles. Just a little less than two years ago the late Mr Hodgkiss was transferred to Merredin, and from that centre he later proceeded to Norseman as an officer of the E. S. and A. Bank. Shortly after arrival at Norseman, however, he was seized with ill-health, and subsequently he was transferred to the Woorooloo Sanatorium for treatment. To this he made no response and passed away on Friday of last week. The funeral took place at Karrakatta during the following day, and amongst those present at the graveside were Mr. and Mrs. A. Bastian and Miss Bastian, of Three Springs, Miss Connie Bastian, of Perth, and Mr. H. McHarg, of Koorda, the last-named gentleman also being formerly associated with banking circles at Three Springs."
